Bhutan is located in southern Asia, between china and India. It has an area about half the size of Indiana. The total area consists of 47,000 sq km. it has a land boundary of 1,075 km and their border countries are china 470km and India 605 km.
Bhutan has a climate that varies in different regions. A tropical climate in southern plains, cool winters and hot summers in central valleys and severe winters and cool summers in Himalayas.
Bhutan’s terrain is mostly mountainous with some fertile valleys and savanna. While the lowest point in Drangme Chhu with 7 m, the highest point is Kula Kangri with 7,553 m.
Natural resources in Bhutan include timber, hydropower, gypsum and calcium carbonate.
Getting there and away
Travelling to Bhutan can be air and land. You can travel to Bhutan by air on Druk Air, which is the only airline travelling to Bhutan. The only airport in Bhutan is Paro. If you wish to travel by road you can get there from Bagdora (West Bengal) which enters Bhutan at the border town of Phuentsholing, which is 179 km (111 miles) from Thimphu and borders west Bengal, india. The border crossing at Samdrup Jongkhar in eastern Bhutan allows tour operators to take travelers across Bhutan on a single-lane road crossing into Assam, India.

Visa Information
Nationals from India and Maldives do not need a visa.
All others will need a visa before arriving. To obtain a Bhutanese visa, you need the following:
-Bhutan visa application form x 3 copies duly filled
-2 passport-size photographs
-Photocopy of the passport
For private visitors, a sponsorship certificate form must be filled in by the sponsor.
A fee of US $70 a day should be paid directly to the Department of Tourism for private visitors, except for family members.
Visa processing time: 1 month.
When entering Bhutan, you receive a visa for only 2 weeks from Paro airport. Visa extensions can be granted if you stay longer. Except for SNV employees, the visa extension fee of Nu. 510/- for each passport should be paid.
