Day off in Puerto Escondido
| Cycling from Alaska to Argentina Travelogue - January 2010 Travelogue |
I seem to be making a pattern of taking Sundays off. A pattern I plan to continue! Playa Zicatela is not a typically Mexican place, and that’s probably why I find it so relaxing here. Its like taking a day off from travelling, as well as from cycling, when I can have a decent conversation in English, find an abundant amount of places to eat with a wide choice of meals, use WiFi, and browse books in English. All things that I can’t do as I cycle seemingly endlessly through one small, dusty Mexican town after the other. No traffic whizzing by at crazy speeds, no rabid dogs, no chickens, no sweating profusely, no hills and no hassle. That’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed Mexico, just that it is nice to take a break from it if that makes sense. And the pressure of cycling through Mexico is non-existant when compared to the constant pressures I had when cycling through Africa. This is definitely more of a cycling vacation so far!
So, a nice day off, looking at the beach, surf, and people walking by. Tomorrow its back to the reality of the road once more.
On a different note, Mexico is one of the majority of countries in the world, where you should not flush used tissue down the toilet. This photo illustrates this in the most amusing manner I have seen so far !
