Welcome to Daves Travel Pages

My name is Dave Briggs, and thank you for visiting my travelogue site. I've always had a wanderlust, and about ten years ago, I put my dreams into reality with my first around the world trip which lasted for 15 months. Since then, I have become a regular traveller, only coming back to England to work for six months or so, before returning to the road with the money that I have saved. Each trip I undertake has some theme, from tours of archeological ruins in South America to experiencing India on the railways. After my last trip, I decided that I wanted to do something that was more physically challenging, and so at the moment, I am cycling from England to South Africa. I left in July 2006, and the cycling trip should take me a year to complete.

The How To Page

The plan is quite simple - Ride a bicycle from England to South Africa. I left in July 2006, and am estimating that it will take a year of cycling to reach my goal. This travelogue will be updated once a week with news from the road, so be sure to keep coming back to www.davestravelpages.com

25/10/06 Goreme - Antakya This travelogue update covers the cycling journey from Goreme to Antakya, which is the last town in Turkey before I enter Syria.

20/10/06 Ankara - Goreme - Read about Goreme and the amazing landscape, where I took a few days off from cycling to do the tourist thing.

09/10/06 Istanbul to Ankara Damn that chain that snapped!! Damn it to hell!! Turkey is still pretty good though.

03/10/06 Istanbul Read about my week off in Istanbul. Beer, bicycle shops and brother!

27/09/06 -
Stage 1 of my trip cycling trip from England to South Africa is over now that I have reached Turkey and Istanbul safe and sound. Read this travelogue update for more news, as I take a few days off to sort out stage 2, which will be from Istanbul to Cairo.

18/09/06 - Those mountains through Romania were very hard work, and my legs are aching just a little! I'm across the border now in Bulgaria, where the alphabet has gone all weird on me, and people nod and shake their heads the opposite way.

10/09/06 - I'm now in Romania, and cycling towards Draculas castle in Bran. The countryside is truly beautiful around here. I'm still a long way from South Africa, but I'm getting there slowly!

31/-8/06 Another update to the travelogue, this time from the capital of Hungary, Budapest. Talking of hungry, I have this sudden craving for a bacon sandwich.

24/08/06 - Well, that's a month I've been away now. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? Still following the River Danube, and one day away from the Slovakian border. Check all the latest, and for those interested in statistics, look at the boring statistics page.

14/08/06 - I didn't think my wet weather gear would get this much use! Where's the sun gone? I've now started the River Danube Cycle Way, and I'm quite liking Germany.

08/08/06 - I am now on the German border and only three days away from the start of the River Danube section. Over 1000kms of cycling done already!!

02/08/06 - I am out of England and halfway through France, and have added another update to the travelogue, and put more information on my rough route page.

26/07/06 - I'd just like to thank everybody who made it out on my leaving do, especially the lads from work and the Bush Pigs. A great gig guys, and some incredible dancing moves from Matt!! I'm still in England, but not for long as the cycling trip to South Africa gets underway.

17/07/06 - All my injections are done, and malaria tablets bought, but the dentist informs me that i need to have a filling... marvelous! My worldly possessions are now in storage at work, who i must say have been very good about my travelling bug... thanks guys! On a more serious note, there are huge problems in the middle east at the moment. Wouldn't it be nice if the people of the world could live together without wanting to kill each other?

23/06/06 - A month to go!! I've had my first two doses of the rabies vaccination, and have two more to go. I've handed my notice in to the landlord, and let work know. As I type this, I'm looking at my bicycle and wishing I could start cycling to South Africa now! Help spread the word about this travelogue, and make me your homepage!

03/05/06 - The India Travelogue is now finished and online, spread out over 9 pages. For an overview of my thoughts after my India experience try this.

09/04/06 - A departure date of 23rd July 2006 looks more or less certain now. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that my website now has a Google rank of four. Hopefully, this will mean more visitors, and more people clicking on the various adverts around the site. Who knows, hopefully I will get to the stage where I can earn an income big enough to travel full time !! Find out about Google Ranking.
