San Cristobal de las Casas

San Cristobal de las Casas

I couldn't have picked a more ideal town to take some time off in as I wait for a parcel to be delivered from the U.K. I say town, because although San Cristobal is actually a city, it has a colonial town feel to it, with its narrow one way streets, central plaza and many cathedrals. Its set up in the Chiapas highlands at about 2100 metres, which for those working in old currency, is 6700 feet. This means that it is far cooler here than Mexico in general, and at night something over the top of the t-shirt is advisable! I haven't seen much rain here, but it gets its share, being almost in the clouds!

San Cristobal is an easy place to walk around, with most notable attractions 5 minutes away from the central plaza.

Close to the plaza is the Cathedral San Cristobal de las Casas.

And five minutes from there, is the amazing Cathedral Santa Domingo with its unique facade.

Outside the church, is a daily market, where a wide range of colourful handicrafts are for sale.

Over across the opposite side of the square is the magnificant blue structure which is the Saint Lucias Temple.

Another great church is the Guadalupes Temple.

Its quite a walk to get up there, but when you do, there are some wide views out over San Cristobal de las Casas.

I expect to be here another week whilst I wait for the parcel to arrive, so on Monday, I will take the bike out, and visit some of the smaller outlaying villages. Until then, thanks for visiting!

The city looks great. The pics are amazing. You have a great aesthetic sense. Loved your photography. I wish you all the best in your journey. Have a good and safe trip. Will be dropping here quite often to see different places thru you.

Good to hear you're still enthusiastic to hit the road! I've just had two weeks off... and that feels too long!
I've swapped spam and top ramen for refried beans and tortillas - you know it makes sense ;)

Dave,

I wish I were still riding like you. We lost you somewhere around Pismo Beach, California.

Glad to see you're still pedaling. I gotta save up some money so I can get back in the saddle.

Keep it up buddy and stay safe.

Lucas

PS - you still living off spam and top ramen?
