That town I don´t know the name of to Rivas
| Cycling from Alaska to Argentina Travelogue - March 2010 Travelogue |
The first couple of hours were really fast going, perhaps because it was gradually downhill and I was shielded from the wind. The next two hours were a bit horrible though, cycling directly into the wind. None of the information I have mentions strong winds in this section, so I am not sure if it is a common thing or not.
Along the way, I met Davide, an Italian cyclist who has been on the American Continent for a year or two. He was travelling ultra light, and after we had a bit of a chat, I have to say that I was very jealous as he sped off with ease. He has an interesting project going called http://www.cycle4strays.com/ check it out and see what you think.
I made the town of Rivas in reasonable time given the circumstances with the weather, and although I had initially half a mind to stay here for this Santa Semena holiday period, there really wasn´t much there to warrant it.
I took a room at Hospedeje Internacional which was just 5 dollars. Although I could sit on the bed, and touch all four walls with my outsretched arms, amazingly its not actually the smallest room I have ever stayed in. That honour goes to the hotel room in Syria.

Perhaps I am, but clearly not about cycling around the world in all kinds of weather, staying in all manner of accommodation and doing it alone. I want to have experiences of people and places, but I want to do it in comfort and preferably, with someone whose company I can't have too much of!
But tell me, do you actively seek out painful experiences?
i will try to answer some of the questions, although these answers are not definitive... ask me the same questions in a months time, and i will tell you something new!!
sheer bloody mindeness keeps me going through a bad day.. thrash metal on my mp3 player helps too !
the best things about doing things like this are the new experiences - life for me is about experiencing as much as i can, never becoming complacent. the most painful things - well that would have to be the series of relationships i have royally messed up in the process.
but this is my life, what i was born to do, what i enjoy doing.
There, I've said it which is also a back-handed, weave-and-whirl-my-way-around-it way of saying that I think you're pretty amazing doing what you're doing!
If I could, I'd like to pick your brains about why you do it, what keeps you going when you're faced with bullying winds and sneering hills and what are some of the most painful, touching, awe-inspiring, hilarious, terrifying moments you've experienced.
Whaddya think?
