Google page ranking used to be a very important SEO metric. Times have changed though, and is it still relevant?
What is Google Page Ranking and why is it so important?
Google page ranking is the measure of importance which Google gives a website, between zero and ten. The higher your websites page ranking, the higher it will appear in Google search listings, and the more likely people will be to visit your site. There are many SEO (search engine optimization ) techniques for increasing your websites page ranking, which will apply not only for the most popular search engine (Google), but for others such as Yahoo, MSN and countless hundreds more. I have found that this site www.increaseyourtraffic.co.uk has the best selection of free SEO tools for webmasters.
My website has now been up and running for just over a year. For that first year, despite using all the SEO techniques that I could, it had a Google ranking of only zero. Then, almost a year to the day since its beginning, my page ranking suddenly leapt to 4. This leaves me to believe that whilst SEO techniques are important, you must wait for your website to become ‘established' first.
For me, a high Google ranking is vitally important. Higher visitor numbers mean that more people are likely to click on the advertising on my site, and earn me commission in the process. My ultimate aim, would be to have a steady stream of income from this and my other websites, meaning that I could travel fulltime.
