Money

This page lists the various countries I will be travelling through, and the currencies I will have to use. I am hoping to complete my cycle trip on £4000 or less, and will take my ATM card, as well as a combination of cash, euros, US dollars and travellers cheques.
To save this amount of money over a little less than a year, has meant a lot of personal sacrifice (no car, no drink, little social life), but it has meant that i can save about £500 a month. I don't have the highest paid job in the world, and rarely come out with more than £1100 a month, but the way that I look at it, is that every £15 I save is another day on the road, and that's the important thing for me.

Country Currency Notes
E.U. Countries Euro Well, if there is anything positive to be said about the Euro, it's that it will make my life easier travelling through countries which have it !!
Slovakia Slovakenska Koruna ATM cards will work with no problems here.
Hungary Forint ATM cards widespread, but will have back up of Euro's.
Romania Lei Change money in big cities. ATM's available. Euros or US Dollars as backup.
Bulgaria Leva ATM's available. Euros, US dollars and pounds as backup.
Turkey Lira ATM's available. Can exchange Euro's, dollars or pounds in exchange offices and post offices.
Syria Pound / Lira ATM's in major cities. Banks in towns will exchange currency. Will probably use US Dollars.
Jordan Dinar ATM's widely available. Travellers cheques exchanged in most places.
Egypt Pound ATM's only in tourist towns. Exchange cash or travellers cheques.
Sudan Dinar Can basically only exchange US dollars.
Ethiopia Birr Can exchange US dollars. Maybe travelers cheques in US dollars as well.
Kenya Shillings Cash, travellers cheques and some ATM's
Tanzania Shillings Cash and travellers cheques. US dollars needed for entry to some wildlife zones
Mozambique Metical ATM's widespread. Currency exchange for US dollars
South Africa Rand ATM's widespread, cash and travellers cheques. By this time, i will probably be putting everything on my credit card, and worrying about it later!! (Especially as i will have to buy a flight back!!)
