Well, it looks like I have already broken my New Years resolution to post travel blog updates every two weeks! Such a good job that I didn't do anything stupid, and try to give up drink for a month! Anyhow, I think I have a reasonably good excuse for not posting new blog updates recently, and that's because I have been preparing to move to Athens. (If you want to read the backstory behind why I am moving there, then read here – Change of Travel Plans).
Arguably, as I have been preparing for an around the world trip for the last four years, you would think that I would be a little ahead of the game. Unfortunately, its all starting to happen in quite a rush though, and there is only a couple of weeks left until I move to Athens! As a brief update then, this covers what I have been doing, and probably lays the ground for some more excuses as to why the next blog post will also be posted in a lackadaisical fashion!
Preparing to Move to Athens
My House – I rent the house that I currently live in, so all I really needed to do, was to hand in my notice with my landlord. Of course, once that was done, I then noticed that I would probably need to complete several minor repairs in order to get my deposit back. I would also then need to pack my stuff up and find somewhere to store it. Most of it is going to my parents house, whilst some of it is going to my brother. All I really need to take with me when I move to Athens are some clothes and my bag of tech gear, something that I will probably write about in another blog post.
Financial Details – There have been several financially related details that I have had to take care of before I can move to Athens. Without going into too much depth, most have these have revolved around some share options and some bank accounts. I don't intend to open a bank account in Greece yet, but I did need to sort out some of my UK accounts. I also have to change the addresses on all of those for my parents address. Again, in a future blog post, I will write a little bit about how I am dealing with my finances and also how I hope to earn a living whilst in Athens.
Leaving Work – Handing my notice in was the easy part, but training new staff up to replace me has made for some busy days. I would be a liar to say that I'm not winding down now though!
Leaving Do's and Parties – Also since New Years and today, I have visited Athens once, and last weekend I was in Dublin. It's a rock n roll lifestyle don't you know! It hasn't helped me write many blog posts though, and means that all the other jobs I had to do in order to move to Athens have been put behind a bit. I've also got a bit of a leaving party at the end of the month where I am playing a few songs with a couple of bands, and that means I need to practice the bass a little bit! By the way, it's at the Obelisk centre in Kingsthorpe – If you haven't seen it on Facebook, then leave a message so I can send you the details.
Let's leave this blog post here then. I've still got a few things to do in order to move to Athens, and the date is now set at Feb the 6th. I would like to promise you that before then, I will write at least two more blog updates, but who knows!?!!
