How does a Caribbean island paradise with year through sunshine and endless outdoor activities sound to you? Let's check out Aruba, a perfect destination for couples who want access to plenty of adventure activities whilst on vacation!
Aruba is one of those places that you've probably heard about, but couldn't pick out on a map. Let me help you out! It's a small Dutch-Caribbean island located just 15 miles away from the South American coastline. Due to its location, it makes a great year-through holiday destination, but in particular, it is popular with couples looking for winter sun. You can find out more about it here: Aruba – One Happy Island.
Why Visit Aruba?
The majority of people who visit Aruba do so for those classic reasons – The white sand beaches, clear waters, incredible weather, good food. The list goes on and on! It does have a lot more to offer outside that though. In particular, sporty couples will love the range of outdoor activities on offer in Aruba.
Outdoor Activities in Aruba
We can start with the obvious ones – Water sports! Surrounded by warm waters, Aruba is a natural home for all types of water based activities. Windsurfing is a popular activity for people on holiday in Aruba, but to enjoy the ocean at a gentler pace, Stand Up Paddle Boarding is also available. In addition to these, you can also try your hand at sailing, parasailing, and kayaking.
Scuba diving is also popular with people visiting Aruba, and many people choose to learn how to scuba dive here. If you already have your PADI licences, you can simply rent gear out and go for dives around the island. The waters are filled with amazing marine life, such as turtles, eels and snappers. If shipwrecks are more your thing, be sure to check out the wreck of the Antilla!
Land Based Activities
It's the land based activities that might surprise some people though. So often, the Caribbean islands are shown with just the beaches and the sand, that everyone forgets about the interior! Well, you can put that right with any number of land based activities, including my favourite, mountain biking. Rent yourself a couple of bikes, and head out with your partner to explore some tracks in the mountains!
You can either join a tour, or ask your hotel for tracks and trails local to you. The company your hire the bikes from will also be able to point you in the right direction. You will soon find that everyone is super-friendly and willing to help!
