Shimano Chains

Cycling from England to South Africa 2006 - 2007

  Shimano Bicycle Chains

My Dawes Super Galaxy 2004 uses nine speed Shimano chains, which are difficult to break, but not if you are me! I wasn't aware before I started my cycling trip to South Africa that Shimano chains use a special pin when they are either repaired or replaced. My first repair with a normal pin snapped within 200 metres, so don't try that one at home kids! If you are going on an extended cycling trip, I suggest taking up to a dozen of these special connecting pins, and also two spare chains. I take with me a spare Shimano chain, and also a local chain, which can be fitted quickly and easily by either myself or a local bicycle mechanic.
