One of the advantages of travel with a tablet device, is that it is a lot easier to stay connected. Being WiFi enabled, it is possible to get online with the tablet in bars, cafes, hostels and shopping centres around the world. Of course, it is also possible to do this with both smartphones and with laptops, but a smartphone screen is too small for constant use, and a laptop is too bulky and would perhaps draw unwanted attention in some places. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 though can be put in a coat pocket or bag quickly, starts up in seconds, and lays flat down on a table.
It goes without saying that travel with a tablet is not going to appeal to everyone, but it is certainly the right thing for me. I don't see it replacing my laptop or Kindle, but i do see it as supplementing them both, enabling me a wider variety of options when it comes to communication, entertainment and being able to work on the road. As I see both the Kindle and the tablet replacing the travel books and novels that I used to carry around with me, it will also actually mean that i am saving weight rather than increasing it.
