Some Thoughts on my Next Trip
Having now been back in England for 15 months or so, its time to re-evaluate where I am, and when my next cycling trip can take place. It can be sometimes hard balancing patience with the urge and need to hit the road again, but that is what I need to do, especially of I wish the next cycling trip to last the four or five years intended.
So finances – Everything is looking pretty healthy right now. As I stand, I have enough money to cycle around the world for a year, and I am saving steadily more each month. The aim is to get myself in a position where I have a big enough pot to last four or five years, and in addition, have developed my online interests to the extent that I can live off of the money they generate.
Online Interests- – I have managed to get a lot more income from my sites over the last year or so, but it is an unsteady and unpredictable process. I can certainly develop this a lot further, and that is my intention. The freelance writing for web content on the other hand, has quite literally exploded. I have found myself to be an in demand content writer in the travel niche. However, whilst this helps with my monthly income, I need to find a way to be able to do this and travel at the same time. At the moment, I would not be able to cycle and write as the contracts would not allow this.
Bike – I have been building the expedition bike up gradually over the last months. I have realised though, that there is certainly a balancing point between building up a half decent bike and simply buying a new one. In addition, it also made me realise that there is a huge, and I mean HUGE gap for affordable touring bicycles in the market. However, I am committed to building my own bike up to my own specifications and will continue to do so.
Big question then – When is the next trip?
Logic says that it is sensible to leave during the summer of 2015, which is just less than three years away. During this time, I will have been able to have capitalised on a nice share scheme from my place of work, which I am hoping will fund the bulk of the trip. However, I also know I have itchy feet now! I guess we just have to see how it goes….
