Laundry on the Road

For most people, with their week or two week holiday abroad, laundry is never an issue. However, for the traveller embarking on a trip of a few weeks or more, it is something that needs to be thought about.

With a budget ever present in most long term travellers mind, going about it the most economical way is usually the better option.

And the cheapest way is?... Soap and water.

Whether you are camping in the wild, or staying in a hostel, washing your clothes by hand is always going to be the cheapest way of doing laundry. I've washed them in rivers, sinks, and yes, even in the shower (might as well save time by washing myself as well!).

Washing clothes by hand doesn't take too long, and if you make it part of your daily routine, is not a hassle. Of course, when you do stay in a hostel, check if they have a washing machine there which is free to use – A good long term traveller will take advantage of everything that he or she can ;)
