A bluetooth speaker like the iClever IC-BTS02 is perfect for travel. It looks good, sounds amazing, and is very affordable. I've had my Iclever Bluetooth Speaker for years now, and it hasn't missed a beat. Here's my >Iclever Speaker review.
IClever Speaker – Updated 2018 Review
Before leaving the UK to move to Athens, in 2015 I was sent a bunch of tech gear to test out to see what I thought to it. One of those pieces of gear was an iClever Bluetooth Speaker. After settling in, I finally got around to trying it out to see how suitable it would be for travel. The original review is below. Updating this in 2018 three years later, the Iclever Bluetooth Speaker is still going strong and sounds great. So I can firmly say that it is very well made!
IClever IC-BTS02 Bluetooth Speaker Review
Firstly, the IC-BTS02 speaker is a really solid little device. It has a zinc alloy shell which not only looks stylish, but also offers robust protection. This is particularly important if the speaker is going to be thrown into a backpack, or put in carry on luggage for a flight.
The speaker is protected by a meshed top, and all buttons and sockets are flush or beneath surfaces. At only 260g it's light as well, so it is ideal for backpackers. I would would even take this on a bicycle tour, where weight is often a consideration. Size wise, it fits comfortably in the palm of the hand. (64.5×64.5×70.1mm).
Looking at the IClever Bluetooth Speaker
There are various buttons and sockets on the iClever bluetooth speaker. On the back, is a micro USB socket, and AUX socket. The speaker comes with both the recharging cable and an AUX lead.
On the front, is the bluetooth disconnect and answer/reject call button. The microphone is also located at the front. (Yes, you can answer calls via the speaker, which makes it great for conference calls, or answering a call if the speaker is in one room, but the smartphone is in another).
On the bottom of the speaker, is the power on/off switch, and buttons for play/pause, previous track and next track. Why are they there? Imagine you are charging your smartphone in one room, but the speaker is with you in another room. If you want to skip a song on your playlist, you can just use the button.
Pairing the bluetooth speaker
Pairing the iClever IC-BTS02 bluetooth speaker with another device is extremely straightforwards. Turn the speaker on from the switch at the bottom, turn on the bluetooth on your device (such as a smartphone), and then search for the speaker.
After the initial pairing, the speaker will pick up the device straight away next time. 10/10 for simplicity! The battery life is very good, and lasts between 8 and 12 hours of playback when using the bluetooth connection. If you use the AUX connection, the playback time will be even longer. Recharge time is between 2 and 3 hours, and is done via a micro USB charging cable.
What does the IClever Speaker sound like?
Sound quality then – This 5W speaker pumps out a great sound! Its design may mean that the sound is kicked out upwards rather than around, but it really doesn't make too much difference. There's a nice depth to the bass, and mid and treble ranges are clear. You are never going to be able to host a party with this speaker, but it's certainly loud enough for one room, and I can hear it at a good volume in all 5 rooms of the flat in Athens.
Final Thoughts on the iClever IC-BTS02 Bluetooth Speaker
My opinion, is that for the price it is impossible to find a bluetooth speaker which is better than this. In fact, it punches well above its weight, and performs better than some speakers which cost twice as much. The value for money it offers is simply incredible.
For travel then, it is a perfect companion. Not only can you use its bluetooth functionality with a smartphone or other bluetooth enabled devices, but you can also connect it via the aux socket if desired.
If you are staying in a hotel room, and want to listen to some sounds before heading out at night, this is for you. If you are a digital nomad who is working with a podcast on in the background this is for you. If you are a couple travelling, and want to call family and friends back home and both want to listen and talk at the same time, this is for you.
In short, if you are thinking of taking a speaker with you when you travel next, then the iClever IC-BTS02 Bluetooth Speaker should be your first choice.
