Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery Problems with the original battery

Over the last few months, it has become apparent that there is a big problem with Samsung Galaxy S4 battery keeping their charge.

I first noticed this myself when I was using an app on my phone to keep track of my cycle rides over the weekend. The S4 battery lost charge after only a few hours of use, and over time, its performance became worse and worse.

Initially, I put this down to the phone perhaps running too many apps, or the GPS draining the battery, but as time went on, the battery drain issue in my S4 became worse and worse.

One of the reasons that it was difficult to work out what was going on at first, was that we all know that smartphone battery life sucks. (Which is one of the reasons that I am hesitant to use my Samsung Galaxy S4 as my sole GPS when on my next cycling trip around the world).

As the months went on though, the battery was draining within a matter of a half an hour or so, and so I knew that something was seriously wrong.

Problem with Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery : You are Not Alone!

A quick search online revealed that I was not alone in experiencing a problem with Samsung Galaxy S4 battery life.

Other people around the world were also noticing it, and after an initial spate of returns to Samsung of the entire phone, they finally admitted that there was a problem with the S4 battery.

In fact, if you take the battery out, you will notice that it has visibly swollen. I'm not sure if this presents a physical danger, but its certainly not a good thing!

New battery for Samsung s4 Battery

They introduced a scheme where you could take a problem Samsung Galaxy S4 battery into a dealer and have it replaced free of charge.

There isn't one near where I live though unfortunately, and so instead, I simply bought a replacement (not Samsung!) from Amazon. It was the RAVPower 2800mAh Li-ion Battery for Samsung Galaxy S4 without NFC if you are interested by the way.

This has solved the problem, and my Samsung S4 now holds charge as good as any other smartphone – which isn't that great to be honest, but I get ten hours use before recharging now!

So the short version – There is a problem with Samsung Galaxy S4 battery swelling and losing its charge. Get it replaced as soon as you can!
