Here's my insider's guide to the best restaurants in Patmos, Greece. Fire up your taste buds, and prepare for a culinary adventure when you dine at any of these great Patmos restaurants and tavernas!
Best restaurants in Patmos
During a recent visit to the Greek island of Patmos, we ate at a lot of restaurants. And I mean, a LOT! Without exception, the food was amazing in each one.
Of course, the food in Greece is nearly always of a consistently high standard, but these Patmos restaurants and tavernas really stood out.
Picking the best restaurants in Patmos, an island known for its great food, was never going to be an easy task. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it! So, without further ado, here we go.
The best restaurants in Patmos, Greece
I've listed below the restaurants that we visited in Patmos in no particular order. There are of course many, many others, all of which I am sure offer the same high standards. I guess I can try some different ones during a future vacation in Patmos!
As well as my thoughts on each restaurant and taverna, I have included some links to Tripadvisor reviews. These reviews include the address and contact details of each of the Patmos restaurants and tavernas I have listed here.
Psili Ammos Beach Cantina / Taverna
I'm going to start with a simple, cheap affordable place. But you are going to need to hike for 20-30 minutes to get there!
Located on Psili Ammos Beach (without doubt the best beach in Patmos!), you'll find a small building with some tables underneath the shade. Serving local dishes such as meatballs and fries, as well as some fresh seafood and salads, the portion sizes are big and the prices very reasonable.
You can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner here, although keep in mind the Psili Ammos taverna in Patmos closes at 20.00.
And the location is truly unparalleled – you'll have the best sea view in Patmos, and be able to enjoy the beach before and after you eat your meal.
Tarsanas Marine Club
As far as settings go, this Patmos restaurant had the most unique one. Situated in a working boatyard, part of the restaurant seating was contained within a re-purposed boat.
You can expect traditional Greek cuisine here in a contemporary setting. Dishes you have to try include the kataifi spinach balls (which look weird, but taste delicious), and pastitsio. The Greek salad is also good!
After you have had your meal, why not take a stroll around the shipyard? You might find some boats being worked on, which is a fascinating process. You can check out Tripadvisor review for the restaurant here – Tarsanas Marine Club.
Nautilus Restaurant Patmos
Continuing with a sea theme (well, Patmos is an island!), I visited the Nautilus restaurant. This is a new restaurant in Patmos, and offers some amazing views out over the sea. We timed our meal with a sunset, which added to the ambience of the occasion.
Here, you can expect a mix of traditional and contemporary cuisine. The stand out dish for me, was the caramelised octopus. You can check out Tripadvisor reviews for the restaurant here – Nautilus in Patmos.
Pleiades Bar Restaurant
Pleiades was perhaps the most sophisticated of the restaurants in Patmos I visited, and had a wonderful setting. Nestled on a hill, and among some delightfully designed villas, the views are amazing. As is the food of course!
Every dish that this Patmos restaurant served up had a unique twist, whether it was the Greek salad served in a plant pot (yes, really!), or the crazy salad served with a strawberry vinaigrette.
The restaurant prides itself on the menu created by a Michelin-awarded Chef, and the waiters and staff cater for your every need. Perhaps not a taste of authentic Greek cuisine, but a dining experience you should not miss out on.
You can check out the Tripadvisor reviews for the restaurant here – Pleiades Bar Restaurant.
Skala Restaurants – Ostria
Ostria is one of the best Skala restaurants, and is your typical seafront taverna, serving a range of delicious local cuisine. Try the octopus, the mussels, and the shrimps. Actually, try ALL the seafood!
This is where dining as a big group has its benefits – You can order a number of different dishes, and try some of each one. The fact that a lot of locals also dine here is a very good sign. You can check out the Tripadvisor reviews for the restaurant here – Ostria.
Ktima Petra Restaurant
A family run taverna that prides itself on its delicious homemade food.
You can expect filling dishes made from home and locally grown produce here, with the oven cooked goat standing out in particular.
A friendly atmosphere adds to its charm, but be aware that reserving a table during the peak season of August is highly advisable.
Check out the Tripadvisor reviews for the restaurant here – Ktima Petra.
Plefsis restaurant
My final candidate for the best restaurant in Patmos is Plefis restaurant on Grikos bay. A waterfront taverna attached to the Patmos Aktis Suites & Spa Hotel, it has an extensive menu.
From traditional Greek dishes such as fava and stuffed peppers, to more contemporary dishes such as quinoa, there is something for everyone. They also do ice cream!
Super-friendly staff here as well! You can check out the restaurant reviews on Tripadvisor here – Plefsis. By the way, they also had a cute Greek cat!
And the best restaurant in Patmos was?
It was far too difficult to make a decision. I will have to return to the island soon and try every restaurant in Patmos again! Have you visited any of these, and if so, which one do you think is the best Patmos restaurant? Leave a comment below!
