When cycling in Ecuador, there was plenty of rain, so sometimes it made sense to get a later start when cycling in order to dodge it.
Cycling to El Pangui
Blog post written in June 2010
With only a short day's cycling of some 40 km in mind, I had plenty of time, and waited until the rains stopped at 09.30 before leaving.
The road leaving Gualaquiza towards El Pangui was a newly paved one, and flat with it. Well, as flat as it gets in Ecuador at any rate, so the cycling was quick and easy.
By 11.30 I cycled into the town of El Pangui, and booked into the hotel opposite a beautiful and well maintained plaza.
An almuerzo and internet usage saw the afternoon drift away, and another meal in the evening rounded things off nicely, especially with a cold beer!
Tomorrow's destination is weather dependent. If it’s a good day, I will cycle the 80 odd km into Zamora, but if its raining I’ll take another short day and stop at Yantzaza instead. So many decisions… it’s a hard life !
