Day off in Burlington – Rest Day on Pan American Bike Tour

Redwoods

I took a day off the bicycle to explore the Redwoods near Burlington campground, USA as part of my bike tour from Alaska to Argentina. Redwoods near Burlington (Blog post written October 2009) So, I took the day off to wander around some trees, and very nice it was too!! The redwoods are pretty awesome, and I followed a couple of trails through the forests, learning some things along the … [Read more...]

Cycling from Arcata to Burlington Campground on the 101

A strange looking Victorian style house in the town of Eureka

Today, I passed through a strange little town that had some Victorian style buildings called Eureka, before ending up at Burlington campground on the 101. Lightning my load I don’t know. I spend all that money on a motel room, and get no more than two hours sleep. Brilliant! Whilst I wasn’t sleeping, I went through all my gear, dispensing with unneeded items, which reduced the weight I carry … [Read more...]

Victorian architecture in Arcata

It's tough spending day after day camping in a tent, and so sometimes it's nice to splurge in a motel room. At least that's how I felt cycling from Elk Prairie to Arcata. A foggy day It felt like I never really got going today. It was another foggy one, which had the curious effect of being cold whilst I was sweating going up the hills, which is not a great combination, unless you like your nose … [Read more...]

Cycling from Harris State Park to Elk Prairie PCH 1

Trees of Mystery - Redwood Forests

The bike ride from Harris State Park to Elk Prairie would be a big day, but rewarding because I got to see my first giant Redwood trees of the bike tour. Leaving Harris State Park (Blog post written October 8th 2009) I left reasonably early after a quick breakfast, as I knew that today would be a big day. There was still time to pop into Subway for breakfast number two though! I was waved … [Read more...]

Bike Touring from Humbug Mountain to Harris State Park Oregon Coast

How many cyclists does it take to change a wheel

Cycling along the Oregon Coast was a real highlight of bike touring in the US. Today, I cycled from Humbug Mountain to Harris State Park, bumping into a number of other cyclists along the way. Cycling along the Oregon Coast (Blog post written: Oct 7th 2009) Another beautiful day. I have to say that the Oregon coast seems very easy in comparison to some of the cycling that I have done, and the … [Read more...]
