Cycling from Chiapa de Corza to San Cristobal de las Casas in Mexico

On this day of the bike tour from Alaska to Argentina, I finally cycled into San Cristobal de las Casas in Mexico.

Cycling into San Cristobal de las Casas

(Blog post written February 9th 2010)

The brief summary of the day, is that it took six hours to cycle just 60 kms along, although it was also 1.8 kms up.

To start off with, it was fine, but a couple of hours in, and there is only so much joy you can take from having all the clothes you wear soaked in sweat.

The temperature was noticeably cooler the higher I got, but there was a lot of exertion going into moving the bike and trailer!

When I reached the top, and could see that it was a downhill into San Cristobal, I let out a bit of a cry of triumph!

Cycling into San Cristobal, I headed towards the Centro Historico in search of somewhere to stay.

One place was absolutely incredible, and would have charged less than 40 pesos a night for a two week stay.

Even by my standards though, it was a little bit TOO incredible!!

Hotel Virginia San Cristobal

After looking at a few more places, I settled on Hotel Virginia, where I got the price down to 140 pesos a night for a 15 night stay.

WiFi is included, there’s good hot water, and its reasonably quiet.

At night, I actually had to cover myself with a sheet and blanket, as it was a bit chillier than normal. Exactly what I have headed up this way for !!
