Hi,

I hope you're doing well!

The summer might be over, but it really doesn't feel like autumn is here yet in Greece – We've had unseasonably good weather this last week or two in Athens. I'm even thinking of going swimming next week at the coast near Rafina if it carries on!

Which reminds me – yes, I'm back in Athens now 🙂

The last time I wrote, I was in Karpathos. Our island hopping trip then continued on from Karpathos to Crete where we stayed a couple of weeks.

Crete is the southernmost island in Greece, and the weather stays warmer there for longer. We thought this would be a great way to extend the summer, and Crete in October is probably one of the best autumn destinations in Europe.

During this visit, we spent time at Sitia, Rethymnon and Heraklion. As a result, I've got lots of catching up to do in terms of guide writing – I guess it means I have something to do over the winter!

While in Heraklion we visited the obvious places like Knossos, the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and Koules fortress

One of the places that I didn't think I would like so much was the Natural History Museum of Crete. Turns out it was one of the highlights of my time in Heraklion!

Talking of museums and all things ancient – for the next few months, most public sites and museums have free entry on the first Sunday of each month. If your trip to Greece coincides on one of these days, keep it in mind!

And to round everything off, it's the Athens Marathon next weekend (main race Sunday 12th November). Good luck if you are taking part!

Cheers for now,

Dave
