First time travel to Athens this summer. Would like to visit Delphi & Meteora. What is best, to booked Delphi with hotel over night & next morning Meteora.? Or schedule separate trips, travel to Delphi & come back to Athens and next day travel to Meteora? I’ve read reviews from people with the combined trip is rushed & time at Delphi is short? But is scheduling separate longer on the road? Help, need advise. Thank you.

      Hi Anna,
The downside of organised tours is that you are on somebody elses timetable. The bonus is you get an expert guide and all transport arranged.
There’s actually a 2 day trip to Athens you might like to try which is organised. Check out this blog post for more details: Athens to Meteora

Hi! We are starting to brainstorm about a family trip to Greece. We would like to stay for at least 10 days. Is Greece easy enough to get around with 3 smaller kids in tow? We homeschool and would like to see tons of history and culture, great food and some beaches. A few hikes too. We were thinking of a late September trip to avoid crowds. Am I totally off my rocker thinking this is a good place for families to vacation? Any tips would be appreciated. I signed up for the news letter too.

      Hi Jessica,
Greece is a GREAT place to take a vacation with kids!
Kids have pride of place in Greek culture, and family is number one here.
It terms of history, culture and beaches let me suggest a few places you might like to consider:
      Athens (of course!)
Naxos – I often recommend this island for families. It has a great mix of nice beaches, great food, and is more authentic that Mykonos (it’s really not worth going there given your brief description).
Crete – Another great island (the biggest in Greece). Again, a perfect mix of things to do, its a foodie heaven, you can visit rural farms to taste local produce, visit vineyards or olive oil producers, see small mountain villages, go hiking, and it has some of the best beaches in Greece.
In fact, Perhaps Crete should be a focus for you, with 2 or 3 nights in Athens.
You’ll get more information through the emails.
      Wishing you all the best!

Hoping to fly to Greece in late April for two weeks with my 24 year old daughter. Hoping to do a lot of hiking
What is the garbage situation in Greece right now? A colleague went in September and said it was pretty bad. I’d appreciate any feedback and/or places to avoid

Also, will the ferries be fairly reliable in late April early May for some island hopping. Do you recommend I buy ferry tickets in advance( now) or wait til I get there?
    Thank you
    Laura from Ontario Canada

      Hi Laura,
      I hope you are well!
In regards to a garbage situation – I’m not really sure to what exactly you’re referring. You’ll find clean beaches almost without exception, and clean streets for the most part.
In the countryside, plastic has a tendancy to blow with the winds – we’re not talking Asia levels though.
of course if your friend visited an area where the garbage people were on strike that might be different.
Ferries will be on their schedules during those dates. If you are just travelling by foot (no vehicle), you could wait until you arrive as it’s not peak summer times.
