Where to Stay in Patmos

I recently visited the Greek island of Patmos as part of an initiative to help develop tourism on the island. During that time, I was kindly hosted by Porto Scoutari Romantic Hotel and Spa. All opinions that follow are my own. You can also check out some reviews of people who have stayed at the hotel here on Tripadvisor.

Patmos Hotels: Luxury

The fact that I rarely, if ever, write hotel reviews on this travel blog is probably the first sign that Porto Scoutari Romantic Hotel and Spa in Patmos is something special. To me, a hotel is normally just somewhere I rest my head for the night between doing the interesting stuff when travelling or on vacation. This time though, the hotel was something a little more than that.

Porto Scoutari Romantic Hotel and Spa

Positioned on a hill with sea views over Meloi bay, Porto Scoutari Romantic Hotel and Spa is about a 5 minute drive from the port at Skala. It's a purpose built complex, and the attention to detail is second to none thanks to the owner Elena Scoutari.

This includes everything you might expect from a luxury hotel, including some things you might not think of such as a bespoke water filtering and storage system. The impressive pool is centre point though.

Accommodation is in a series of bungalows, and the main features of the hotel include a swimming pool, beautiful garden (with a parrot!), and spa centre. My room was a huge one with an oversized bed, bathroom, and separate spa-shower (which I didn't use – I will have to use it next time!).

The entire hotel complex gave me a sense of peace and calm due to the layout, ambience, and choice of simple but effective colours.

What made Porto Scoutari Romantic Hotel and Spa stand out?

For me, Porto Scoutari had that perfect blend of great facilities, and more importantly, polite, helpful staff. They would always check if things were ok, and had the discretion to know when to leave guests in peace, and when to be engaged in conversation. This is something you almost never get with a big chain hotel, and it helped make my stay there all the more refreshing.

Porto Scoutari Romantic Hotel and Spa in brief

I think the hotel appeal to couples (the clue is in the name!), and attracts those who want to enjoy the little extra touches that make a place stand out. I had a couple of conversations with the owner, and it seems that they have a very high rate of re-booking which is always a good sign. If you are the sort of person that likes your own space and peace and quiet, this is for you!
