Whilst cycling through Mexico, I took some time off in San Cristobal de las Casas to wait for spares for my bicycle to arrive. This is a quick travel blog update.
Waiting in San Cristobal de las Casas
Well, there's even less to write about than there was last week! The reason for my time off, was to wait for decent quality gear to arrive from the U.K. which it did.
In comparing the new and old tyres, there was a huge difference! I could probably have gotten a thousand more kms out of the old tyres, but I doubt it.
As always, paying an import tax on the cost of the goods AND the postage was a bit much, but needs must. So, Bernard the bike is now looking good from his recent facelift – new tyres, chain, cassette, gel seat and gear changer. The bike runs a lot smoother too!
During my time off, I also resupplied some of my general gear. I managed to buy a new tent, sleeping mat, machete, Guatemalan currency, cheapy raincoat and MP3 player.
The MP3 player I am most excited about – There is a huge uplift of spirits whilst cycling difficult roads listening to music like Slayer and Korn !
From here, its 3 days cycling to Palenque, where I'll take one day off to see the ancient site. From there, I'll probably be able to do an update, before heading into Guatemala.
And so that's all I've got to write about really on this update. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible, and I can't wait to hit the road again tomorrow !
