The Greek island of Anafi

Anafi island in Greece

Laid back Anafi is still untouched by mass tourism, although not quite as off the radar as it once was. As a quiet Greek island getaway, it fits the bill nicely, with a local population of barely 270 people.

With pristine beaches, hiking trails, and a pretty Chora, Anafi is the kind of destination you travel to in order to relax and feel a different pace of life. This is probably not the type of destination for anyone who likes to tick off ‘must see attractions' from a hefty to do list.

As one of the most southern Cyclades islands it is most easily visited from Santorini, but like all Greek islands you can get there one way or another from other islands with a little ingenuity and island hopping!

How to get from Mykonos to Anafi

It has to be said that traveling to Anafi directly after Mykonos wouldn't be my first choice, as it might involve the better part of a day in transit. There's far better ways to spend your time in Greece in my opinion.

That said, if you found this page, you obviously want to do it, so don't let me stop you!

There isn't an airport on Anafi island, so the only way to make the trip from Mykonos to Anafi is to use a ferry. Unfortunately, there is not a direct ferry either.

This means that you will first need to travel from Mykonos to another island closer to Anafi, and then get a separate ferry from there to your final destination.

Ferries to Santorini and then Anafi

The best route is to take the Mykonos to Santorini ferry. Once in Santorini, you could then take the Santorini to Anafi ferry.

During the summer on a good year, you may find that you can make this journey in one day as the connections might just about line up for you.

If you are not so lucky, you may need to spend the night in Santorini.

Whilst the Mykonos Anafi ferry journey is not a complicated one to work out, there are easier island hopping routes to put together in the Cyclades islands in Greece!

If you're undeterred and want to go ahead with traveling from Mykonos to Anafi, I find that Ferryhopper is a good website to use. You'll find plenty of route options, timetables, and can also purchase ferry tickets online.

Anafi Island Travel Tips

A few travel tips for visiting Anafi island:

  • The best area to stay in Anafi is in and around Chora, and for hotels in Anafi, have a look at Booking. They have a great choice of where to stay in Anafi along with customer ratings. If you are traveling to Anafi in the the months of July, August, and September, I advise reserving rooms to rent in Anafi at least a month or so in advance.

  • One of the best places to look at ferry schedules and to book tickets online is at Ferryhopper. Although I think it's better to book your Mykonos to Anafi ferry tickets in advance, you could also use a local travel agency once you have arrived in Greece. These are normally found in the port towns on the island, although in the case of Mykonos, you should find an agency in the Old Town.
