Are you set on planning your own trip to Greece? These Greece travel itinerary guides are a great place to start!
Greece Trip Planner
At one point, I offered a design your own trip feature on the blog. As the blog grew in popularity though, it became impossible to keep up with everything. So, if you came here expecting that feature, apologies in advance!
However, I suggest you sign up for my free travel guides, itineraries and insights:
Greece Itinerary
What I learned from the design your own trip function, was that many people had the same questions when it came to planning a trip to Greece.
In addition, a lot of people were interested in similar itineraries. One in particular being the classic 7 day vacation in Greece itinerary of Athens – Santorini – Mykonos.
As a result, I decided to put every itinerary for Greece I have on this one page. In addition, there are also links to the most important travel blog posts about Greece.
If you would like further information, you can either sign up for my free travel guides by using the box at the top of this page, or leave me a comment with your question. I'll be happy to answer them!

Dream Greece Vacation DIY
So, you plan to visit Greece and rather than take vacation packages, prefer instead to plan your own dream trip.
What is Greece like though?
Greece is an absolutely beautiful country with plenty to offer tourists! The landscape is varied and stunning, whether you're looking at the mountains, forests, or coastline. There are loads of ancient ruins and historical sites to explore, as well as lovely towns and villages. The food is fantastic, too!
Whether you plan to go to major cities like Athens or Thessaloniki, or you rather explore the Greek islands like Crete or Santorini you'll find travel guides on this site to help you. Here's a few additional tips though:
Accommodation in Greece
There are lots of different options for accommodation, from camping and hostels to luxury hotels. I recommend Expedia as a good website to search and find hotels in Greece. I use them for all my own trips both within Greece and to other countries!
Island Hopping In Greece
Many people dream of spending some time hopping between the Greek islands. Whether traveling between popular destinations like Santorini and Mykonos in the summer months, or traveling to islands off season, I recommend using Ferryscanner to check ferry schedules and book tickets.
Day trips to ancient sites and more
No vacation in Greece is complete without seeing some of the ancient ruins! Athens is loaded with options, from the Acropolis to the Temple of Poseidon, but you'll also find ruins all over the country.
Unless you've rented a car in Greece, you might find it better to take a tour or day trip. I recommend Get Your Guide as a good resource for finding day trips and tours to famous sites in Greece. Viator also have excellent Greece tours and excursions.
Good afternoon Dave, I am planning a 16 day trip to Greece in October. I am flying into Athens, hoping to visit Santorini and 2 additional places before flying back to Athens for my return flight. I would like some ideas of where to go that would make sense in terms of location but also budget friendly! Thanks
Hi Jannine,
It’s probably best to stick to other islands in the Cyclades group. I would suggest Naxos and Paros would be good choices at that time of year.
They are big enough that they don’t close down, but there will be fewer tourists so much better to enjoy things!
Have a look at this guide to the Greek islands, and scroll down to the appropriate sections. I’ve got a lot of info about each place.
Hi Dave, We have a group of 9 that will be arriving Athens on June 19, 2022. We were looking at 4 nights/3 days in Athens. 4 nights/3 days on Crete and 4 nights/3 days in Santorini.
As far as Athens and day trips are concerned, I hit the link on your site that took me to Travelocity for day trip to Delphi and everything for next year is grayed out. Am I too early to try and make these day trip reservations or am I way too late. Let me know what you think and the itineray.
Hi Jude – The itinerary looks great, and you’ll be able to see a lot of the highlights of each region.
For Travelocity, it is probably too early to look at anything. Instead, I recommend – Get Your Guide
You can normally book them well in advance, and I use this company when I travel overseas myself. I actually prefer this company as they are very reliable, and have a great refund policy (but check first!!).
Enjoy your time in Greece!
